NWZ-B130F Walkman Announced

Sony is set to release an update to its popular mini MP3 player, the B series, in September. The 3-line LCD NWZ-B130F will feature a very small yet durable form factor and be available in either one (in black or red) or two (black, red, pink, blue) gigabyte configurations. It plays MP3 and WMA (no ATRAC capability). Usual specs include the rapid recharge (3 minutes charge for 90 minutes playback), bass boost, PlayForSure compatibility, full “Drag and Drop” music management and FM tuner. Interestingly enough this device can do voice and FM recording, too.

This device recieves a thumbs-up from Sony Insider as its price point will be below the iPod Shuffle in most markets and it can plug straight into any audio device that has a USB port for playback and recording capabilities (can record in either 96/128/192kbps MP3). The full drag and drop functionality is great; who wants to use complicated music management software when your using a small capacity player? No thanks.

  • Nice to see new Walkmans ,but frankly speaking I don't like the design at all .design is somewhat similar to my older walkman S703F

Recording features are pretty good, especially recording radio.
  • Hmm this is a surprise, hopefully a sign of more things to come. Designwise, I give it a passing grade, not great but not poor, capabilities and functions, a B+. Maybe sony will add more new players this fall? perhaps they are waiting on apple to debut their stuff?

No AAC support? And isn't this Asia only? Low capacity DAPs are going out, replaced by cellphones (in case of Sony, Sony Ericsson walkman cellphones). I just bought a 2GB Memory stick M2 for less than $20, and my SE K550i is perfectly fine for a simple MP3 player. Paying more than that for a simple 1GB/2GB MP3 player doesn't make sense anymore. Sony has not even released the promised NWD-E02x in the US (supposed to be released in June). BTW, iPod shuffle 1GB is $50. Can Sony really sell this for less than $50?

It will not support AAC - I've seen the full specs.

ahh that's a shame. well it's ony a B series so... waiting for next E and S series.

I bought two. Red & Blue I'm very pleased with them for AU$69 each.

I haven't been able to find an armband for them yet; but was pleased that my player didn't scratch when it fell off while riding. I think my old Nano wouldn't have fared so well...
