DSC-T20 Cyber-shot Camera Vibration
Sony has discovered that some DSC-T20 Cyber-shot cameras sold in the United States may experience an issue with abnormal internal vibration and an inability to properly focus and take pictures. For cameras affected by this issue, Sony will provide free repair until July 17, 2011. In certain units, the lens cannot adjust properly due to a mechanical failure in the lens mechanism. When the automatic features of the camera attempt to adjust the lens, the camera body vibrates, preventing it from properly focusing or taking pictures.
Notes:
- The symptom only occurs while the camera is powered on.
- The vibration is similar to that of a mobile phone set to silent mode.
Affected Cameras
This issue affects some of the following DSC-T20 cameras sold in the United States:
- Pink or Silver cameras with serial numbers between 500001 and 525350.
Note: Not all cameras within the serial number range are affected.
The model name and serial number are located on the label on the bottom of the camera.
How to Resolve the Issue
IMPORTANT: The camera mode settings may be initialized during the service process and all recorded data erased. Please make a backup of your camera’s internal memory data before sending it to the Sony Service Center.
During the free repair period, Sony will provide customers in the United States a prepaid shipping label so that you may send your affected DSC-T20 camera to the Sony Service Center for free repair.
Notes:
- Please verify that your camera is a DSC-T20 with serial number between 500001 and 525350. The model name and serial number are located on the label on the bottom of the camera.
- Verify that your DSC-T20 camera is experiencing the vibration issue and an inability to focus and/or take pictures.
- Sony will provide free repair only for DSC-T20 cameras within the affected serial number range that are experiencing the issues described above. All other cameras are subject to normal limited warranty terms.
If your DSC-T20 camera is in the affected serial number range, and is experiencing the issues described above, please click here to order a prepaid shipping label.
If you have questions or require assistance, please call Sony customer support center at 800-784-6726.

This exact problem is occuring on my camera as well, but it unfortunately falls out of this series range and was not purchased in the US. It appears that this problem is more far-reaching than Sony thinks!!
This same problem is occurring on my camera as well which i purchased in Tokyo, unfortunately my 1 yr warranty is just expired. It seems to be a problem with Sony camera irrespective of the place of sold (In fact place of sold logically makes no sense).I think Sony should repair this kind of problem at its service station all across the globe.
I have a pink Sony DSC-T70 bought in the US and it is vibrating and I am unable to take pictures. The # on the bottom of my camera starts with a 3 not a 5. Will I be able to receive repairs through Sony?
I had bought Cyber Shot DSC T20 from Tokyo on 22/9/2007.
The serial no is 67047. It was bought from Takarada Electric Co. Ltd Chiyoda-Ku Tokyo.
It is giving me the same vibration trouble. I am not able to shoot. In still or movie mode.
Some times I can take some pictures but at times it starts vibrating.
I have also initialised it. But with no effect.
The model no don’t fall under specified range and the gurantee period is recently over.
As I am unable to use I am missing many golden moments of my life.
As it is manufacturing problem Sony should keep its reputation and repair without any charges.
I am in Tokyo fora fes months. Pl advise me what is to be done.

I have a T70 and have the same problem. Sony needs to hear from all of us that this is more than just a T20 specific serial number issue. USA
Called the Customer Service desk. Their solution was to initialize the camera. Seems to be working for the moment. Will keep y’all updated.

also i got one as a gift from Qatar, and now it have problem in focus, i found if i used the Mecro the pic will be better, anyone know how much it will cost to fix this problem?!!!
I purchase the t70 in Indonesia last August and have just experienced the same problem. What is Sony doing about it?
I too have a T70, purchased in December 2007, in the US and it just started vibrating the other day.
Like the people above, I’ve got a DSC-T70 that I purchased in November, 2007, that a month ago just started vibrating and cannot focus when I turn it on. I’ve been hesitant to spend $111 to have Sony repair it if it is just going to break again. This problem definitely affects more than just the DSC-T20 model and should be addressed by Sony.
In the meantime, for anyone who’s camera is out of warranty, check with your credit card provider to see if they offer any kind of extended warranty. They may be able to reimburse you for the repair costs.
i got a T70 too from December 07 in Canada. Called Sony and they say have it check out by their authorized place. it would cost $50. This is definitely affecting the T70 from all these post.
this is not cool anymore..I have a T70 and this vibration thing makes me go insane..I bought this camera when I was in Europe and I am now here in the Philippines.. I want to address this problem to Sony, fix this as soon as possible..It’s not just my loss, but also your loss..
Add my name to the list of T-70 owners with the vibrating lens problem described above.
Purchased in Canada in December 2007.
If anyone has information, or any ideas on how to obtain out of warranty repair for models other than the T-20, please post it here!
I contacted Sony support, and they said there are no known issues with the T70, and thus will not repair it out of warranty.
my god.. frustrating.. i have a t 70 and it seems to be having the same problem. and these corporates are extremely annoying .. they need a mass mail from all of us saying that it is just not the t20 users but also the t 70 users who are experiencing this problem and they just might resolve it for us.
I have a pink DSC-T20 camera. And it is vibrates whenever I take photos with it. I bought it in Singapore and the warrantly is already over. Its very frustrating. What can I do. From the comments I have seen, it seems that alot of people from ard the glode seem to have this problem. Would free servicing be provided? Pls advise me on what to do.
I also purchased a T70 in the USA, and just recently started having the same problem. We are living in China with no easy way to get it fixed. As with the other comments, Sony needs to understand this is not just a T20 problem. I can't believe it says “Super STEADY Shot” on the Camera! What a joke.
I am owner of t70 camera and have exactly the same problem – my camera just started vibrating and no chance of taking any pics then.. I lost my warranty papers so cannot really do anything- not mentioning the fact that I bought my camera in the USA and now moved to Europe.
hi, i have a dsc-t20 that started vibrating last december and when i used it again this May, it worked well for the first couple of days then started vibrating again. needless to say, between the 2 holidays last december and May, i hardly have photos for memories keepsake. i looked at the serial number and it is #2534876. where can i send this for a free repair?
I Have the same problem in my T300 camera , bought from USA few months ago ..
I'm in Jordan now ! and i don't know how to repare it !
Hi i have a sony T-20 camera (made in Japan) and also encountering the same problem of vibrating screen and poor focus & quality.
The serial No begins with 24, and the standard warrenty of 1 year has expired. How will this get resolved???
Hi All,
I have the same problem with a T70, I've seen loads of posts on this here. has anyone found a way to get this resolved? I don't want to put the umpteenth post about this up, but I can't see a solution here.
Cheers!
I have the T10, purchased in the US approximately Dec 2005. I've had the same problem for 2 years but it only acts up when I'm taking a lot of pictures with time in between or I'm in a very sunny location. Unfortunately, it usually malfunctions when I'm sight-seeing on vacation.
Hi guys.. sony offers a 3 years warranty on the cyber shot irrespective of the duration mentioned on the warrenty card.
Hence this product will be repaired Free Of Cost by the authorized service station.
cheers
I have a sony DSC t300 that now has the same problem, Is there a way to fix it on your own ?
I bought my T70 in Tokyo about 2 years ago, and yes, the vibration was damn annoying. I live in the US and the Sony rep said that my serial number doesn't fall within the series that qualifies for free repair, but that they'd gladly fix it for $100. Forget that! I ended buying a T900 and am selling my old pink camera on ebay. For those of you who still have your camera, I took my battery supply out of the camera and let it sit for a week or so. Today I just put it back in and strangely enough it's not vibrating (for now??).
As many of you, my camera T70 keeps vibrating as well and i have no idea what to do. Help, anyone?
Did you get yours fixed/resolved? I Have your exact camera (also bought in the US).
Hello everyone,
I have the same problem with my pink T-20 just today. I have been using my camera for 3 years and this is the first time it vibrate.
huhu.

My T100 is doing the same thing. Turn it on, it vibrates and takes out of focus pictures. Oddly enough, if I turn it upside down it stops vibrating.
However, it will cost $144 plus tax to fix according to the Sony repair site. That's a rip off when you know it didn't even cost Sony that to manufacture the damned thing. I loved this little camera. It took great shots and is just barely 2 years old (out of warranty) bought in the US. What a rip off. Sony should be ashamed of producing a product of substandard parts and should stand by their brand name and make good to people who are having this problem. They are bringing dishonor to their name. I will no longer buy their products.
Same started happening to my pink T20 purchased from the US. It does NOT fall in their serial range, and thus will not be covered. What a load of crock.
I will definitely avoid buying the Sony brand for all future home electronics!
I have bought T300 Sony digital camera online shopping, since 2 months it started vibrating, which has effected the quality of the taken photos, most of the times I can't take photos. I have been searching for the purchase receipt but I didn't find it yet.
please let me where I should send it for get it repaired?
best regards,
my sister sent us a T70 camera last december 2007 she bought it in dubai & now we have this vibrating problem the same with others. what will I do with this? can you replace it?
Just to add to the list… I also have a T70, purchased in November 07. Started having vibration problems several months ago (Jan 09). Called Sony customer service and performed camera initialization. This appeared to fix the problem for a while (I also wasn't using the camera much during that time), but it came back a month ago (Jul 09), just before my vacation. Really needed a camera right away, so I had to go out and purchase a new one–very frustrating! So do I understand correctly from the blogs that it may come back even AFTER the camera has been repaired?? Not hard to see that this is not just a T20 issue… Hopefully, Sony will take appropriate steps to rectify!
I am owner of t70 camera purchased 1.5 year back for 325 USD and have exactly the same problem – The sony service centre sauys the Lense unit requires replacement and it costs 250USD. Current marketn price of T70 camera itself is 275 USD. I believe it is totally unfair from Sony.
please let me know if any one has a solution to rectify this problem
My dsc-t70, that I purchased in December of 2007, started vibrating and i did not use it often. When I contacted sony support, they told me the same lie. That they did not know anything about this model vibrating. I think it's bull that I have to pay to get it fixed. As much as this camera cost, it sucks that we have to continue paying for it. We may as well have a prepaid camera. I think its a flaw that allows them to continue making money off their customers. I can say this much, I am going to get a new camera tonight for my vacation, and it will not be sony ever again. I am done with them. And I will be contacting the better business bureau.
did you solve this problem?
I am havinf the same problem with my DSCT300… i want to know where i could fix this..
I also got vibrating problems with my sony dsc T20. it was bought in singapore and my warranty expired.. my serial number starts with 2… its very frustrating coz its not in the series declared by sony with free repair.. I dont know what to do…
I have purchased Sony t70 camera 1.5 year back for 325 USD and have exactly the same Vibrating problem – The sony service center says the Lense unit requires replacement and it costs 250USD.
This is too much on Sony's part.
This is like like their universal problem, they have to fix it.
But they simple saying buy other brand if you don't like sony. We don't repair after warranty.
I strongly suggest everybody think about twice before buying any SONY Products in the future.
I bought a T100 a year and half ago (out of warranty) and have the same problem.
As soon as i turn the camera on it starts vibrating and the pictures taken are out of focus, also when the camera is rotated at and angle it stops vibrating until i try focusing and then it starts vibrating once again.
This is very annoying as the camera has hardly been used and i consider it brand new still.
I have friends with other sony products and they are all disappointed.
I will never buy a sony products again and highly recommend thinking twice before buying.
sony products look good but preform badly.
I have exactly the same problem with my 2 year old Sony DSC-T70. It vibrates like a cell phone when it is on, and the display and photos are totally blurred. Sony service says they will not fix it under warranty, they say they are sorry, they understand, but they will not help. I will never buy another Sony product again!
My Silver Sony DSC-70 bought in the US also has the exactly the same problem. It started vibrating after perfectly working for 1 year and 9 month. I would appreciate it if you could keep me posted when Sony repair it for free.
DSC-T100 – same vibrating problem – seems to be only when i hold the camera vertical. had the camera for just over 2 years. sometimes the cover flips open in my pocket and i think my phone is ringing!
I have a T10 and a T70 that are vibrating. I called sony today and they said they will fix the T70 under warranty but want a minimum of $146.87 to fix the T10. After sony fixes the T70, they will only give me a 90 day warranty on it. This vibration issue is so frustrating. It is inconvenient to have a camera that will not work when you turn it on. It is inconvenient to have a camera that won't work when you try to download photos to the computer. It is inconvenient to have a camera that I have to ship off for service. I will not be inconvenienced any longer by sony. I am going out today and buy a new camera and IT WILL NOT BE A SONY.
I'm really starting to think we all better just start a class action suit against SONY since they're not willing to admit this is a KNOWN PROBLEM and do the right thing.
I TOTALLY AGREE HOWEVER I JUST CALLED THEM AND THEY SAY THEY TO NOT HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS ON THE T70
I too have a Sony T70 bought Nov 2007 that is vibrates when it turns on. This has got to be the problem with the telescoping camera that Sony features on their T series.
COME ON Sony I paid more for this camera than other competitor's and all i got was this lousy camera vibrating problem.
I have a t300 with the vibrating problem, it falls with in the serial numbers listed but they will not do anything to help as it is out of waranty. Cost to repair is more than cost of a new camera. So i will buy a new camera, BUT IT WILL NOT BE A SONY!
I was gifted with a CYBERSHOT DSC T300,by one of my friend in 2008, i have very sparingly used the camera, and now i have started facing a problem, wherein the lens has started vibrating along with the pic and makes the noise of a motor. The serial no. is 3054918
Kindly look into the issue and respond asap.
Regards.

Obviously, other SONY Digital cameras are having the same vibration issue, as I have researched this today. I own a DSC T-300 Digital camera that has begun vibrating, making it impossible to obtain decent pics at all. Unless SONY backs up their support on repair for all cameras having vibrating issues, they are going to lose a lot of customers, starting with me. I buy SONY everything, but I will certainly lose faith in SONY, having paid $400 for a digital camera that is useless after almost one year.
My black DSC-T70 camera has just started having vibrating issues as well. It's very hard to take any decent pictures, with it being totally out of focus.
I bought my DSC-T70 in December 07 in USA.
My Cybershot T-300 has 2 flaws: The screen keeps wearing off. It was reconditioned once while in warranty, but now it is wearing off again. The 2nd flaw is that the camera vibrates every time it turns on. Sometimes it will stop…sometimes it won't.. but the camera is not functional during the vibration. I've repeatedly contacted Sony about this but they will not repair it for free. They want $171 to repair problems that are manufacturer defects. They have recalled the T-20 camera for the same problem…vibration…but they refuse to take care of my T-300!
PS: I certainly will NOT buy another Sony camera if Sony doesn't fix my camera! I can buy a new camera for the repair price of $171
I have the Sony DSC T100. It worked fine, then all of a sudden it starting fibrating when you turned the camera on, and the pictures would turn out blurry. I went to Best Buy, and they said that Sony was fixing the T20 for the same problem; however, When I contacted their support people, they said NO not the T100.
If Sony has a problem with their merchandise, they should repair or replace it. I have read many comments on this camera on different sites, that are having the same problem as me with the T100.
Thanks!.

Hi
Iam using Sony DSC-T20 Cybershot, Iam unable to download photos from the camera to my Computer, System is able to read the USB, but the folder is showing blank.
Please Advice
I am experiencing the same vibration problem with my DSC-T20 camera, it was purchased in the United States. Unfortunenately my serial number does not fall in the categories that was suggested, my serial number is 3552423. What do u propose I do with my camera?
How to fix T sires vibration problem :
The problem is the vibration canceling unit, i had the same issue.
if you have good hads you can fix it.( on your oun risk)
1) disasamble the camera, you will see black plastic box inside, this is he lens unit.
2) on the botom you see 2 scrwes, they are holding the CCD remove them and the ccd unit will come from the lens assembly
3) the next is the stabilizer unit it is the problematic one. it is located on the left side of the lens asebly and is held by 2 screws.
you can test it by puling out the cable connected to it (the conector is just under the lens) and verifign that the problem is solved. ( you can leave it this way it will shoot fine just without the anti shake)
4) to fix it take it out ,remove the plastic cover, you see the lens on a plastic mount it should be glued to the magnet under it. the problem is that the glue fals apart.
remove one of the pins on wich it slides, and take the lens and the magnet out.
5) reglue the magnet and reasemble the camera.
6) power up and test, for me that solved the problem
if you need more help you can mail me at adisarit(et)yahoo(dot)com
I bought my DSC T70 more than 12 months ago in US, since few days the DSC started vibrating, no way to make pictures.Serial number is 3591518
I very sad I come back from hollydays with any pictures, thanks DSC T70!
I leave in EU, what can I do?
I am very disapointed.
I'm in Cincinnati, OH and I have a T70 with the same issue. I was transferred around at Sony, but because its a T70 they refused to help me and told me to file a complaint. Our complaining to each other on a forum is not going to get our cameras fixed, so I'm going to call 800-784-6726, ask for National Customer Relations, and complain about my T70. If enough of us call, Sony will hopefully expand their repair services.
My Camera is DSC-T300 and has teh same problem. I wonder if Sony will repair this for free of charge. Please let me know the official statement of Sony on this.
I have the same problem with the T100. Called Sony and did the reinitialization steps. Did not work. The customer service rep said they have not had any complaints about this camera. Obviously, this is an ongoing problem with many of their models. I am disgusted. I love this camera.
The exactly same problem has occurred in my Sony Cyber Shot DSC T-300. I think that this is a generic problem of Sony Cyber Shot camera since there are many complaints on this problem raised in the internet. In this regard, I would like to request Sony to take an immediate action to recall all Sony Cyber Shot camera with vibration problem and repair them for free of charge.
I also have a T70 that has the vibration problem. Serial number 553083. Sony is not owning up to their responsibility in this matter. Shame on me, I previously had a T1 in which the lens also came unglued and would not focus.
This disintegrating glue problem should have been corrected. Obviously, a manufacturing problem.
I too have a T70 Sony Camera that has begun to vibrate. The camera was purchased in March 08 in New Zealand. I contacted Sony and they basically didn't want to know as the camera was no longer under warranty. Luckily we have a law that effectly extends the warranty (Consumer Guarantees Act) so Sony referred me to the nearest rep store to have the camera assessed (which is happening now). If the camera is found to have a manufacture's fault then Sony will have to replace or repair the camera at their cost. Will keep you posted on the out come.
It not just this type of cameras.
I bought sony dsc-t300 a year ago and it already was presenting this problem.
Not receiving other sony cameras knowing the company is on fault is a big deal. I wont buy another product in my life, even if is the last company rest on the world.
Being not such a cheap camera for be this bad get on my nerves, when could have buy a professional one.
I suggest you people get to the customer the treatment they deserve.
DONT BUY ANY PRODUCT OF SONY
How cant they have no complains if I search on the net and I have read A LOT of comments about sony t-X products being such a scam!!
They're just playing to be blind
My camera Sony DSC-T100 just over a year old…exact same issue, warranty expired so decided to try and fix it myself… worked for couple of weeks then back to square one… I have read on countless forums about the Sony – T – Series all haviing the same problem and cant help but try and add up the cost to the undeserving public of which moneys spent is lining sony's pockets…. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF SONY…. never again
i bought the camera from karachi, pakistan.I am facing the same problem of vibration.i dont know how to resolve the problem and where to go in karachi for the problem.please guide me.i love my camera
i bought the camera from karachi, pakistan.I am facing the same problem of vibration.i dont know how to resolve the problem and where to go in karachi for the problem.please guide me.i love my camera
omg!!! I was hoping to buy the piece and solve the problem, but now that you said it doesnt… im getting really depress!!. I mean.. I could have bought a professional camera with that money :S. This is a scam i didnt saw coming
I have a Sony DSC-T70 which is exactly having the same problem. It started vibrating after one year and nine months after i purchased it in Qatar last November 2007. The problem is i sent it as a gift in Philippines and now only i got to show it to Sony Service Center Qatar. They said its the lens problem and is asking a QR700 for repair. Sony Digital Cameras range from QR600 to QR1200, and its very unfair to pay for this repair knowing that its a PRODUCT DEFECT. I just want to address this to SONY, are you guys actually reading this comments? Are you not even doing anything regarding this… So what are we going to get any free repair for this? Can you please reply to my comment. As you know, not all of us are as rich as you guys, we bought Sony hoping that its branded and proven to last long… Now what happens… Are we actually wrong? Thinking that Sony is the best? Please do something about this. Thanks in advance.
Finally I found a place where people can understand the frustration that I feel about this problem with my camera DSC-T20. I am in Brazil, but I bought the camera in Dubai and one year later the vibration started. I contacted Sony and they told me that I have to pay to fix the problem even with the announce of the recall in the sony web site.
I have the same vibration problem with my DSC-T70! I've contacted Sony and althought they will not deny that it's a manufactures defect they will not fix it for me unless I pay for it (I was quoted $111.) They said that since it hasn't been recalled and it's past my 1-year warrenty period there isn't anything they can do. My advice to everyone…send it in before your warranty period expires even if it only happens once in awhile (it's won't heal itself
…And even if it's past your warranty period please call them and maybe they'll issue a recall for our cameras so we can actually get them fixed!
I have the DSC T70 also and mine started vibrating today. i found out how to fix mines. i have to shake it like crazy until it stops vibrating. this is so annoying. Sony Better Do Something about it. Im starting to lose trust in their products.
I've had sony cameras for years going right back to a big ol chunky digital. I can't remember model numbers but experienced the vibrating problem with the model 2 before the T300 – same thing out of warranty by the time it starte happening so they wanted to charge me GBP 100+ (could buy myself more than a decent budget camera with that) Anyways, put it down to experience and bought a T300 and am now experiencing the same problem – again out of warranty. I've only just stumbled across this forum whilst looking for a solution – I can't beleive these people have a known fault and refuse to accept liability. I too, will never ever pruchase any Sony product again. I am absolutely disgusted. Off to check out the latest Canons now.
Same problem… shaking it with the shuttle down helps too…. My cam has been like this for a very long time… Never buying another sony cam…
DSC-T70 – The screen shakes. Plus you can physically feel the camera shake. Photos blurry.
DSC-T70 – Video screen shakes. Plus the camera actually shakes.
It's the DSC-T70 on the T20
Yes, mine is DSC-T70, have the same problem “SHAKING SYNDROM” they need to fix it. My trust is loosing…..
I have the T100 and it's doing the same things as the T20, internal vibration and an inability to properly focus and take pictures. I had to go out and purchase another camera; of course, not a Sony. I've always purchased Sony products until now.
I tried writing to the Board of Directors of Sony, but NO reply! Good way to eliminate good clients!!
What have the rest of you done to tried to get Sony to notice us?
i am having the same problem on my t300 too. has anyone solve this issue yet? let me know plx…
The thing is if the problem could be solve for a permanent time (like for ever) I would buy the lense, but I read on the net somewhere a guy who bought it and a couple of months later it had the same issues :S.
If I were living at USA I would demand the company for a bad customer attention.
I have a problem with my Sony Cybercam DSC-T70. The screen shakes. Pictures are equally blurry. Is there a fix? If so, what do I need to do?
I also have a T70 that vibrates although it is not all the time. I find that if I zoom all the way in and back out again it solves the problem. I have it to shoot action photos of sports events in the continuous shooting mode but this problem has ruined several potentially good shots for me so it's very annoying. I plan to print off all the comments from above relating to this camera and take it to the local Sony Centre and complain as loud as possible.
I recently called Sony and they told me to remove the battery, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. I followed the steps and it has worked for the time being. I asked the technician what exactly that did and he claimed “it released internal energy!” What kind of bogus crap is that? The repair is $111 dollars and I have to ship my camera to TEXAS on MY dime. I will just go buy a new camera if the problem continues to persist and it will not be a Sony!
I recently just did a post about the DSC-T70 (divicatx); They said to remove the battery, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to “release internal energy,” crazy I know. It is working for the time being; however, they said if that did not work, I should send it in on my dime. They claimed they had no recalls on this model.
I also have a DSC T70 purchased in Japan that has the vibration problem. It started to exhibit the problem within less than a year but would stop. Recently, it got worst and I can't use the camera anymore. This is clearly a manufacturing or design issue that Sony should repair free of charge regardless of the warranty period.
I have bought many Sony cameras over the years but will likely not get another one. I am quite happy with the Panasonic Lumix I recently got.
I have a DSC-T300 purchased less than 2 years ago THIS APRIL 11th and it does the same thing. Been doing it since a month after the warranty was up! Never been dropped, not even a scratch on the entire casing!
I PAID $380 ON AMAZON!! I paid a premium for a higher model so I can get top of the line that would last me a very long time, and my camera vibrates like a piece of junk. The $180 Nikon I bought as a gift for my dad works better!!
Now you want me to pay 40% of the purchase price to get it repaired? Why, because, I paid more than the DSC-T20, which would cost me nothing to fix for the same issue? My Nikon's have never had issues, not my compact Nikon, nor my SLR Nikon.
The problem in all the model #'s are the same issue, so why only cover the DSC-T20 for the DEFECTIVE part repair?
I feel like i'm left holding the bag for Sony's defective part which is clearly a problem across multiple models.
I as well own a dsc-t70. purchase june 2008. doesn't use it often a couple months later, the vibrating starts. It bugs the hell out of me. Sony needs to do something about it. they are just full of BS!
I bought my T300 in July of 2008 from Futureshope (Vancouver,BC). I thought that I was buying the best camera of that time which would last me for several years. SONY. I really trusted the brand paying so much money for the name and hoping for the quality, well who wouldn't. To be honest I liked it but as everyone esle started having same vibrating and out of focus problem which actually happened on our trip to Borneo. It just started unexpectedly in the middle of the trip. I thought it was due to the humidity because it would start working for a little bit in the morning and then as the day progresses it would not focus. But apparently it was not humidity since my spouse has Sony T200 and didn't have problems at all and I didn't see or hear anyone else complaining about humidity and their cameras problems.
On my return back to Canada I went to Sony repair shop and they said that there was no recall for this type on cameras. Unfortunately it has been over a year and the limited warranty has expired so if I was to repair it, it would cost me some cash. I don't know how much but just to check it cost $35 and if you decide to go ahead and fix it this $35 would go towards the final bill, whatever it would be. I think that kind of problem can cost up to couple hundred dollars, so I don't think I will be doing that.
I am going to try to call Sony and see what they say. If they say that “there is nothing they can do” (which is probably what they say) I will try to fix it myself following the steps Adi described in this forum. It won't make it worse anyways and the warranty expired. If I won't be able to fix it or break it I will just go and buy a new camera which definitely not going to be a Sony, in fact I won't buy any Sony products anymore and will be against Sony brand.
I don't think Sony will do anything about this problem we have and the only thing we can do is stop buying their products.
Have this solve the problem completely???
I have a silver Sony DSC-T70 and have the same problem with T20(VIBRATES)! I hope you post something that can help us all users of your PRODUCT! . if there is solution to this crazy problem kindly send me an email.. thanks..
Just started experiencing the same problem with my T-100 that I've had for a couple of years. Beyond frustrating….
Adi, thank u soooooo much. this has solved the irritating problem. I chose not to have anti-shake and it shoots just fine. at least the camera still can b used.
hello Beth, Adi's idea works well. Far better than to purchase a new camera. now I can use my DSC-T20 without the annoying vibration. Make sure u have a really tiny screw driver. The screws are extremely small. Good luck
Seems like there is a lot of affected cameras of the DSC-T70 ranges – and others. I have the vibrating problem with my DSC-T70 – number 1502215 – and i contacted SONY to ask when they expanded the extended warrenty from the T20 series to include other cameras with the same fault – the answer was short and simple – Dont count on it, you will have to forward your camera to regular service …. and i am sure, that the cost by far superseeds the value of the camera – I can by a just as nice – NON-SONY product for less than the repair cost.
Nice way to deal with a widespread problem – LOL
It's obviously a big issue. I have DSC-T10 and it does exactly the same vibration problem. So Sony don't want to step up and take responsibility, fine, that's the last anything Sony I will buy.
hi..im using DSC-T20 and im facing the same problem after more than a year of purchase!well,i bought my camera in singapore!the serial number is 2420048!how should i resolve this matter!do guide me,and for your information im in moscow currently!
I have a black model T20 with the vibration problem which was bought in the USA but the serial number starts with a 3 instead of a 5, called Sony and they said since my camera didn't match the criteria for the free fix program I'd have to pay $111.00. to have a technition look at it and possibly fix the problem. Nobody could tell me how they determined why only certain models were “affected” Judging from the 106 complaints on here I determined Sony just makes crappy cameras and are not willing to help their customers in anyway… I'm torn on what to do. Thinking I'll just go with another brand camera even with all expense invested in the accsesories and whatnot. Maybe we should start a class action lawsuit on what is definitley a manufacturing defect Sony choses to ignore.
The bottom line is unless your camera falls into the “special color & serial number catagory”your basically screwed. Sony choses to ignore what is obviously a much bigger problem then what they will admit to. Not sure I want to spend $111.00 to fix what is most definitely a manufacturing defect, and they could only guarentee that my camera would be returned to factory specs. Whats to say its not gonna happen again.
You got it right Ibrahim! My T300 which I bought in the Philippines also vibrates. Have you been able to resolve the problem with Sony?
Another Sony T 300 and T100 owner here from Canada. I got the exact problem with both cameras. The screen vibrates and the camera itself gets hot easily. I'm a loyal customer for all Sony products until NOW. I hope Sony do take this issue seriously.
I called customer support because my DSC-T70 started to vibrate today. Hopefully they will issue a recall for this one also.
I have a Sony T300 camera and it is also affected by the vibration problem related to the focusing motor just like the T20. I am in cominication with Sony about it.
Anybody heard about this problem with the T300? Sony are refusing to acknowledge the problem for a free repair but I think that it is a bit of a coincedence that it is now happening with another one of their models! Not sure I want to pay £115 for a repair if it is a common problem and I can get a new camera for a little more.
I have the same problem with my T300 which is about little over a year old. Tried taking the battery out for a while but still doesn't work…after about 5-10 mins and then back to normal.
This same problem is occurring on my camera as well which i purchased in Tokyo, unfortunately my 1 yr warranty is just expired. how can i trust sonny..
when i used it i will shakingit, i never buying another sonny camera..
also mine i will shaking my cam.. i never by again another sony cam
I have the same problem with my DSC-T500, which I've bought about 2 years ago. I haven't try warranty because it isn't cover my local region outside USA. The problem started appearing after about half year of using.
It looks like self-excitation of stabilization feature when power consumption is increased. It usually happened when battery is discharged by half or at hot external temperature. I'm already get used to it. Usually I shake camera or switch on and off several times and it stops vibrating.
Eventually I believe the problem can be easily fixed by changing some electric component (capacitor) or maybe even with updating internal software (by managing power consumption at switch on). But I also believe Sony isn't going to do it for rather old cameras.
I used to have Pentax and Canon before and all of them had different problems.
So I only can say that life is imperfect in general.
Sony claim that they have no record of any complaints about this vibration problem on the T-70, everybody need to tell Sony via their local web page (mine is http://www.sony.co.uk) scroll down to “contact” click on “step 2″ and in the question box state “this is a complaint” and complete all the relevant details. If Sony get enough complaints they will do something about it, and it doesnt hurt to mention the Sony insider site
There's same problem with T70 ,camera vibration when turn on
.I think Sony should repair this kind of problem at its service station all across the globe.

I have a DSC-T20 between the serial numbers, but I have not purchased in the USA
Same deal… T300 camera just started vibrating last week after only owning it for 1 1/2 years. Contacted Sony and they said to try to reset it, or to have it sent in for repair. I loved this camera and did a lot of research on it before I bought it… but this is ridiculous now. Considering every single person who owns a cyber shot seems to be experiencing the same exact problem, I don't understand how Sony is being so ignorant of the problem. I'm going to hold on to it in hopes that they expand their recall to include my model, but if that doesn't happen within the next few months I'll try to repair it via the method someone suggested in a previous post. And if that doesn't work… I guess I'll be going out to buy a Nikon. Or a Canon. Or literally anything BUT a Sony. What a waste of $400.
My T300 has been doing the vibration act for about 6 months. I stopped using it long ago. I just go t off the phone with Sony and they did nothing but apologize. Apologies don't fix a $400 camera that was just out of warranty. If we ALL call and raise a stink, we might get results. This will definitely be my LAST Sony product. If Sony doesn't recall these camera's.
Same problem on my cam DSC-T2 Pink, purchased in France (2008)!!
i own a dsc-700. i have had it for two years, and the beginning of this year i started to experience the vibration. i just thought maybe it was cause it was getting old , but now i see that it is happening to everyone. this is not my first sony camera, and it is not the first to break on me either. my mother has had multiple sonys as well as myself and they have all broken. my camera would vibrate and after shutting it off it would work again, but then soon start to vibrate. it is ridiculous that so many people have this problem but sony refuses to recall or refund for these cameras. now i get a new error message saying that i have no memory space left on the stick, yet when i go to my pictures, i have not one picture on my camera. i'm done with sony
did any of you get this problem fixed? mine has the same problem ??? :-/ ugh!
I have same problem with my both DSC-T500 black and DSC-T20 pink, purchased in Korea (2009)!!.
Also I think Sony should repair this kind of problem at its service station all across the globe.
My camera started vibrating about half an year ago and then after sometime I just couldn’t get it to take pictures, so I brought it to be fixed, yes 144 $ and as soon as I got it back, yes the camera took pictures, but they were unclear and blurry and after about 2 days it started vibrating again… wow…
hi the exact same problem is occuring with my camera as well, except mine is a cyber-shot DSC T10 would i still be entitled for the repair?
My Sony T300 camera has started to vibrate occasionally. please advise.
Graham Swan.
I have the Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 and it is not covered under the recall, even though it does the shaking too. It’s their crappy Cybershot cameras that have the problem but they aren’t gonna recall all of them just one model. Don’t buy any Sony cameras if they can’t fix something that is messed up in all their stupid cameras.
