Weekend Insider: Will TransferJet Succeed?

Check out this picture. Is it just me or are we now mating our gadgets? With a 3cm max range on the recently popular TransferJet, it seems like we are destined for gadget fornification. Looks like the camera loves to be on top of the Vaio.  After all, they are transmitting data..ahh. Anyway, lets talk numbers here; this wireless technology can do 560Mbps (Max.) / effective 375Mbps (Throughput), which is quite speedy. They (being about 10 of the largest electronics companies in the world) envision communication with this for many devices.

You must read the TransferJet website, as well – it feels like you are on an Nintendo Wii. Let’s just say – the specs are pretty good, and certainly better than Bluetooth and in a couple of generations could be powerful. What do you think?

I think the 3cm max range might be a problem. But the speed is excellent.

What do you think about Bluetooth, do you count that as a huge succes, or not?

I think the strength of this technology will be for individual users within the home, transferring video or photos between devices as illustrated in the example above. Downloading footage you have just taken on your Handycam direct to your TV or uploading photos from your camera to your pc without the need for a card reader or cables. Copying video downloaded from the Playstation store on your PS3 to your PSP or another device. It has enough support to be a success, I think it just needs time to be marketed, and for TransferJet devices to make it on to the streets for it to be a success.
