New Cyber-Shot T500 With HD Movie Mode

Sony introduced another member to the Cyber-Shot family today at IFA – the 3.5 inch LCD touchscreen DSC-T500. Available in piano black, silver, or red stylings, the T500 is a great point and shoot camera for a soccer Mom or obsessed flickr user. Aside from 10.1 megapixels under the hood, it also has a feature that is the first of its kind in a Cyber-Shot: HD Movie Mode, which allows 60 mins (approx) of video to be stored on the supplied 4GB Memory Stick at 720p (1280×720) quality. It’s easy to switch instantly between still and movie modes at the touch of a conveniently placed button on top of the camera, and you can take still pictures while recording video. That is definitely going to be a big hit with consumers.

Sleek and compact, it will ship in late September for about $400.

Cool touch features:

  • Touching anywhere on the screen while you’re composing a shot locks focus on that part of the scene.
  • Touching a face turns on Face Detection, ensuring that people’s faces in the scene are in sharp focus; up to eight faces can be tracked at a time.

(That is the best arm and hand model I have ever seen! Damn!)
