I new to the home theater market (but quickly getting addicted).

I was about to purchase an Optoma HD-80 today when, I was just about to hit the button, I heard news about the SonyVPL-HW10.

I am hearing that picture and contrast is better than a DLP projector and it can project a larger image...

Being that I am just a neophyte to this area, and many of you qualify for erudite status... I would appreciate any opinions you have about this decision...

In particular, is it worth waiting and paying ~ $500 to $1000 more for the Sony or do you recommend going with the Optoma ?

Thanks!

PIXELS = ???

1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 Yes, that is correct.

However, in this case 2,073,600 x 3 SXRD "panels" would still = 2,073,600 seeing that each panel represents a color and are aligned inside the projector so that the same pixel from each of three panels is projected in the "exact" same spot in the picture.

So 2,073,600 pixels x three panels = 2,073,600 pixels on the screen.
