What Do You Want To Ask Sony?

Boys and girls, children of all ages. Gather around because I have a tale to tell ye, and it is most satisfactory. *ahem* My apologies, but allow me to say that things have been very good at Sony Insider as of late. We are obviously becoming a voice for the Sony community, and Sony has been paying attention. After some discussion with the great people in Corporate Communications, it is likely that we are going to do a podcast together. This allows Sony Insider the opportunity to ask Sony questions, and I’m sure alot of you have some.

I wish not to be greedy and leave the ideas to just our team. So, I ask you to help me and suggest some. :) We’ll choose a few from your suggestions. e-mail christopher at sonyinsider dot com with your suggestions, or use the “Contact Us” to the left, or simply leave a comment.

I would like to ask how Sonyinsider.com could use it’s incredible fanbase to help better Sony products and services. They must have an idea how you could help benefit one another.

I think you should ask them some questions about the MiniDisc. It is very quiet and the medium seems to be dead. But there is no official sony-statement from Sony. Maybe they can say, how they think about MiniDisc and how long the existing products will be available.

I’d like to know Sony’s offical stance on Minidisc and if there are any possible future developements.
Also why the lack of support for SonicStage & ATRAC outside Japan these days.

I would like to ask, after 18months, why is there STILL no PS3 demo stands in my UK home town (that has a Game, Gamestation and HMV). How do they expect people to see how great PS3 games are without one?

There are plenty of 360 stands, DS stands, so why no PSP or PS3 stands, most larger cities have them (usually switched off, or cordended off).

What’s going on???? Don;t they want to sell PS3/PSPs?

When will Sony upgrade their nwz-a walkman series? The nwz-a829 looks good with its 16gb of memory but I’d be interested in a 32gb. version.

I’d like to know from Sony if they are thinking about the launch of some new HI-MD units, because it is a product I believe in, and I have bought several types of these units. My hope is that there will be more developments of this kind of high quality product such as the MINIDISC.

OK you asked for it ;)

PS3: It’s music management is feeble! I can’t event seek in a track or resume, this is very bothersome for 1 Hour+ podcasts

ATRAC: Open source it please! keep the DRM to yourself for the Japanese market, but it is still the best portable audio codec I know of.

Clear definition in MP3 players please they are all too like! and yet there aren’t enough variety! IE they have four Nano shaped MP3 players, but no PMP, not HDD based units and no Minidisc units.

How about a modern Minidisc like system feature the best of past and present. That is drag and drop, combined with memory sticks as storage, gum batteries as standard (the EU wants replaceable batteries) and a return of those wonderful Sony remotes.

The hi-end Vaio products have always commanded a premium for their engineering and material, but the new products for 2008 (the Z and the TT in particular) are pushing the price envelope even higher. Personally I’m a fan who sees value in these laptops, but I have never ever purchased a new Vaio, because the pricing is really out of my reach.

I’m hoping Sony wouldn’t just keep pushing for the $5000 mark with the Vaios. I don’t want to say the N word (okay, netbook) but I think netbook or not, Sony can do a lot more at the lower end than the current CS. What could we expect to see at the lower end of the Vaio range?

    A few questions from myself.

    1. Why can’t sony add more features to their mp3 players like on the go playlists? better codec support, wmv, divx, flac, ogg, etc.

    2. what about gapless support for the new mp3 players? or cue files? I make a lot of my own mixes with cue files, woudldn’t mind having the ability for cue files to work on the mp3 player.

    3. why can’t sony add better video cards to their vaio laptops? Something more inline with the competition would be nice.

    thanks.

I’d really like to know what’s up with MiniDisc.
I love the format, though I’d like to see a new player. I’d also like to know if the UMD (used in the psp) is a sister format of the Hi-MD, since they share the sizes.

but most important, please sony, talk to me about MiniDisc. I want a new player!!!!! (ohh, and mac compatible!!)

Sony should use its competitive advantages. I am really surprised while Sony has such a great music and movie sections, why it does not combine them and lunch a “Connect” thing again?
I believe having some great products in MP3 & MP4 players, E-Book readers, Mobile phones (Sony Ericsson), laptops, and game consoles (PS3, PS2, PSP) range, as well as the second music archive in the world and also the first movie archive in the world (MGM is considered) make a great opportunity for Sony to combine and merge its parallel websites(Playnow, Playnow arena, Connect, myplay and…) and services in to the one most powerful website providing contents such as Music (for MP3 and MP3 players, mobile phones, Game consoles and …), Movie , E-books, Games (for game consoles, PCs and mobile phones.) and … in one place. It will boost the sale of electronics as well as music and movie provides and presents Sony an unreachable position in the market.

    A few questions regarding Walkmans

    1. Why no gapless playback, Sony goes on about the playback quality of it’s Walkmans, listening to music as the artist intended is part of that quality. If I remember gapless playback was one of the big selling points of ATRAC. Why can’t gaplles playback be included in firmware updates even if for AAC (If iPods can playback gapless – why not Walkmans)?

    2. Why the small memory sizes? Finally 16Gb, but 32Mb would be a dream.

    3. MP3, AAC, Wav support only, why not FLAC/ATRAC instead of Wav if you are going to limit the supported formats.

    4. ATRAC, why was ATRAC dropped, some of us like it, it seems good enough for Japan, but not for the rest of us.

Why can’t Sony make a true multiplayer ?

Denon have the new DVD-A1 UD.

If You want Sony You have to buy 2 players + one for DVD-A.

Now I have two DVD players and i if want buy a Bluray I will get tree.
Sony You started to support MP3, now It’s time to support DVD-A.

    Frustrated Sony fan.
