How To Install Sonicstage 5

Thanks to our commenter haiiit, it is now possible for anyone using Windows XP or Windows Vista to use Sonictage 5, a Japan-only release. We previously covered the new version of Sonicstage in a previous blog post. Click here for the Sonicstage 5 Japanese download location. We are not responsible for any damage that this may cause to your existing Sonicstage installation, but it is reported that this version of Sonicstage can perfectly coincide with previous versions. First install East Asian language files on your computer:

  • Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
  • On the Languages tab, under Supplemental language support, select the Install files for East Asian languages check box.
  • Click OK or Apply. You will prompted to insert the Windows CD-ROM or point to a network location where the files are located.
  • After the files are installed, you must restart your computer.

Extract the files of SSV-5.0-PA-DL (Sonicstage V) with WinRAR (right click on SSV-5.0-PA-DL and extract); once it’s done enter in the Ssv-5.0-PA-DL/Common/OpenMG/ folder and click on Is_setup; this will install the OpenMG module. After this enter in the Ssv-5.0-PA-DL/Sonicstage/Japanese/ folder, click on setup, and it will install Sonicstage. Don’t forget to restart your computer!

    Hey, did the download. But what went wrong if i keep getting said that sonicstage diagnosed a problem and needs to shut down? There is no info on the nature of the problem… it never gets done importing the old sonicstage’s version’s data. drives me crazy!

    Hey;

    Thanks a lot for your help, here are a few things to add;

    1. Make sure that you have the newest release of WInrar (3.80 at this time)
    2. If the option to extract doesn’t show up in the context menu when you right-click on the item, open Winrar and navigate to the item, the right click – extract to folder

    Again, thank you for the advice on this

    I’m very grateful for this. worked a treat. (as I can read the japanese its ok for me, but others may find it tricky).
    still can’t believe that Sony go out of their way to make it difficult for this. it *must* be cheaper to have one model, one firmware….

    Hello, Do you know if by instaling this version of Sonicstage, it will make my NWZ-S639FB store and play Atrac files, hence getting round the gapless problem?
    Cheers

    If you can't install SonicStage 5.0, you have to download SonicStage 5.2 from:
    http://www.sony.jp/support/pa_common/download/s
    If you still cannot install SSv try to modify you registry configuration Start > Run > regedit

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlNlsLanguage

    Change the Default value and InstallLanguage value from 0409 (en-us American English) to 0411 (ja; Japanese)
    (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa91935…)

    Reboot your system and try to install SonicStage v5.2
    頑張って!!

    Hi, tried running these instructions but was unable to locate the folder. Is it perhaps different fpr windows 7? Also (not exactly tech-savvy here), what if any effects will doing this actually have in the day-to-day running of my computer, such as the language?

    Please can anyone help?

  • Taiki

    Well I'm using XP SP3 and if you take the x-app executable and extract it with 7zip:
    first hit up SetupXAPP.ini with something like notepad.
    you're gonna change up the sixth line that says “supportoslang =” from “Japanese” to “English” or whatever your OS was installed in.
    then you double click SetupXAPP.exe and install.
    I take no credit; just making my ability to read some scarce Japanese to help English readers.
