What Would You Ask The Designer Of The Bravia EX1?

We have the opportunity coming up to do an email Q&A with the designer of the BRAVIA EX1. So the question is, what do you want to know about the EX1? Feel free to ask anything, from aesthetics to technical questions, and we’ll do our best to get them answered. The EX1, announced at IFA, was the world’s first LCD Picture Frame TV with integrated High Definition wireless connectivity. Created specifically for the European market by Sony’s EU Design Centre, the BRAVIA EX1 is a stunning example of Sony product design and engineering. No matter how it is used, the BRAVIA EX1 has a very special advantage over normal TVs, namely the super-fast wireless link between its display and the Media Receiver, thanks to ‘BRAVIA 1080(i) Wireless’ technology. This part of the system has three HDMI™ sockets so it can connect to a sophisticated HD home entertainment system.

Check out our previous story about the EX1.

Well, I have two questions I’d like to ask.

    1. When would this technology be available in the United States?
    2. How does signal degradation affect it? Meaning, if I dont have the base station close enough or pointing in the right direction, what would happen?

What did inspired you to make this beautiful TV?
On what projects have you worked before this Bravia TV?

    Does Sony support new designs?

(Hi. Christopher! – Give me an teaser on the new Walkman)

1 – What design inspirations are commonly used within the Bravia team/Sony?

2 – As a recent Honours graduate of Industrial Design, can I have a job? ;-)

    Awesome design guys! Question:
    1. When you guys brainstorm the ideas for a TV design and its functions do you ever consult with your Japanese counterparts? There were some pretty cool TVs introduced in Japan in early 2000 however they never made it here in the US or Europe (for ex. model KDE-P50HZ1)
    2. I am a proud owner of one of your creations TAV-L1 Home Theatre TV, I thought you were gonna offer a bigger sliding screen but it looks like the production of that line has been called off. Is there a reason why? I thought the bigger sliding LCD would be more impressive. I wish the custom embroidered speaker grilles were also offered here in the US.
    3. Will we see CELL processor integrated in TVs anytime soon?

    Hallo,

I don´t like the concept with 1080i and I don´t like that you only can use one HDMI input on the side of the TV! That looks ugly. Why no ordinary HDMI 1.3 input on the back? I want to use 1080p and 1080p24 from DVD/BD-Players and with no option to play 1080p in native form, the Wireless-Concept makes no sense to me and for what I need it? You have always to use some power cable to the TV, so one HDMI cable more from the mediabox to the TV is not a dealbreaker to me.
But I like the concept with the mediabox. Easier to use for all the HC components and wall mounting of the TV. Please more slim line and thin frame LCD´s with a mediabox, but with HDMI inputs on the back of the TV. I don´t want to use and need WirelessHD, but i want the mediabox back.

And where are new Sony LCD´s with the very elegant and timeless design of the old MR/MRX series? The one and only floating glass design! I want it back!

And why the german Z Series are so thick compared to the japanese X1?

Why we can found so many TV´s with glossy black plastic bezel? I don´t like it and it often looks cheap, so the ZX1 and EX1 is a pleasing alternation. But we in Europe also want more silver brushed metal TV´s (and AV components). I hope something like the silver ZX1 is also coming in the EU and not only in Japan.
Why Japan are often becomes the better designed products than EU and US? The interface often looks better, the remote looks better and now the LCD design like the X1 compared to the Z4500?

    Greetings from Germany!

The 1080i is so not cool. What does this tv have in advance? Nothing besides the sweet looks. The entire WiFi technology is useless when it does not support 1080p 24Hz. Why invent a WiFi 1080 system when it does not support 1080p? It is Sony who forced the entire world into that Blu-ray stuff and now their own tvs can’t even support 1080p with WiFi. This is not an invention, this is a pretty useless technology implementation. And the media box does not even support a wired connection to overcome all that 1080i crap. Sony may have the design, but the technology war is won with other companies.
