Sony Set To Offer Innovative Wearable Walkman

Update: Want some real life pictures? Check out our post here..

We stunned the world with our previous exclusive story about an upcoming touchscreen Walkman, but what we didn’t tell you is that there is another. Sony is set to offer a completely different Walkman than ever before, this time aimed at the budget conscious consumer who wants something to match their active lifestyle. This upcoming W-series Walkman is a phenomenal offering from Sony, with incredible aesthetics, 2GB storage, and a low price point ($50-75). What’s most surprising is the design, which is a very sleek wrap around earphone that has magnetic connectors on each end to keep it bound together when not in use, forming a very distinctive heart shape. There is no seperate unit – what you see is the entire player. The earphones are 13.5mm EX quality, and currently supported codecs include MP3, AAC, WMA (w/ DRM) and PCM.

The true selling point of this device, aside from the low cost, will be the incredible battery life and minimal charging requirement. Three minutes equals a ninety minute charge, while thirty minutes will enable you to listen to music for the suggested twelve hour continuous playback. Wow! Also, Sony’s included ZAPPIN technology continues to play a series of short music clips from your own music library until you can find your favorite song to match your mood.

We believe this product will be announced soon at CES.

Holy crap!! That’s cooler than cool whip! Hopefully, this becomes available at all B&M retailers, and not just online via Sony Style and a few others.

    Does it have a screen?
    What about the controls?
I wonder if the battery life will be good.

The amount of superlatives used in this post baffles me (phenomenal offering, incredible aesthetics, incredible battery life).

Here we have yet another Walkman with:
    1) fixed storage
    2) non-replaceable battery (that I can tell)
    3) same old codec support (MP3, WMA, WAV (PCM), sigh.
…and which makes a track you’re looking for ‘pot luck’.

Yes, it’s great that they have EX quality headphones.
Yes, it’s great that it’s something DIFFERENT, I guess.

…but behind this is the same old Walkman with nothing new on the codec front and certainly nothing impressive on the battery front.
The way this post reads it’s as if this Walkman is the second coming.

    My questions:
    1) Is there an indentation in the centre of the cable to make the cable that shape?
    2) Is the greater weight on each ‘headphone’ likely to be uncomfortable?
    3) Why is this so hyped, aside from doing Sony favours for first-access hits? ‘Cause I just don’t see it.

The most amazing about this Walkman is that it can find choruses of song: http://www.professive.com/index.php/gadgets/walkman-w/

    1) That’s not the point of this product.
    2) And the iPods do?
    3) And you’d be running cross country listening to FLACs?

Do you drink different flavoured/coloured/textured water every day?

    Hi ,

Few point about the codec .
mp3 is still most popular compression format among masses despite so many new standards.

I definately want a wireless headset.
I have to say no to bluetooth wireless headsets because the electric magnetic waves will give you brain cancer plus I still have to carry the main device in my pocket with the wireless bluetooth adopter.
I have an ipod & arm band. but with the tangleing wire , it's just a mess when I running outdoor.

this product seens perfect for my active lifestyle, actually I just ordered one from amazon. haven't get it yet.
looking forward to use it , but a bit concern about if the sweating condition will damage the player.
