PSP 2 To Have No UMD Drive

It’s noticeable to see a spike of PSP 2 rumors and news all of a sudden, and the recent one was reported by Kotaku mentioning that the new PSP (aka PSP2) will not have the controversial UMD drive. Will UMD drive be the last legacy of small prtable electronics Sony will let go off? Most possibly! With recent flood of SSD (solid state drives) that are housed more and more in MP3 players, PMPs and netbooks, the future PSP may be one of those devices to have such a drive. Memory Stick slot could also serve as an expansion slot, but one may only guess that they may even drop that medium in favor of SSD (highly doubtful though!).
Since PSP is now integrated into PlayStation Network, game and movie downloads can be easily accessed over WiFi or PS3.
So as rumors prevail more and more, it indicates that there is a new PSP cooking in a Sony PlayStation kitchen…

This rumour is false. The reason is obvious. It is doubtful that Sony will make the new PSP an expensive PS3 accessory. Also, it is doubtful that they will abandon the brick and mortar distribution system of games. Sony seems to have stopped selling UMD videos and music. However, this does not mean they will stop using UMD’s for games.
I agree with Shinji. Whether it will be UMD or another form of media, Sony will likely sell hard media. I don’t think we are in stage where we expect consumers to download games from internet only. They will need to sell physical copies of the games from stores as well.
Lets put it this way. Sony needs stores to sell its psp2. There are not enough sony stores t do this. You Fools!. Will any stores invest in the console if they cant make money off of its games? answer is no! There will be both downloadable games and physical games.
