Sony HDR-TG5V as Promised

hdr-tg5v_1_lg

We mentioned just a week or so ago that a new HD pocket friendly camcorder is about to be released and Sony followed up with an official press release of Sony HDR-TG5V. The design of this newly announced camcorder has not changed much since we saw HDR-TG1 but the internals got a few extra kicks like 16GB of flash memory (holds more than six hours of high definition video footage (LP mode) ), embedded GPS, minimal buttons and a new intuitive user interface for the touch-panel LCD.

The camcorder’s built-in GPS antenna and NAVTEQ® digital maps geo-tag your videos and photos so you can document your destinations on a map. Geo-tagged content is marked by a push pin at each shot location and can be played back on the camcorder map index display on the 2.7-inch (measured diagonally) wide LCD touch panel. You can also enjoy this feature on the PC using the included Picture Motion Browser software.

So if you are ever lost in a city, pull out your Sony camcorder and fire up the GPS, at least you will know where you are geographically, on a street level wise.

Check out the full press release here.

This tidbit was good to read from the press release:
“With 16GB of embedded memory, the HDR-TG5V camcorder holds more than six hours of high definition video footage (LP mode) so it is virtually ready for capture right out of the box. You can also capture content onto Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media (sold separately) for additional recording time.”

Unfortunately tho… the price point kills it for me. Maybe I’ll settle for one of those webbie cameras.

lol, same music as the Japanese Rolly Bluetooth video…

I love my HDR-TG3 (HDR-TG1 in Japan and US). I do love the added features on this HDR-TG7 (HDR-TG5 in Japan/US) the Exmor, smile shutter, GPS and in-built memory but the extra price is higher than my HDR-TG3, and at least the HDR-TG3 records 5.1 surround as that’s a big thing for me. Sad that they went back to stereo on this one, also I prefer the design of the TG3 too, as this ‘looks’ chunkier, if not heavier.

It seems like it’s good to have a high-definition camcorder, it’s handy and has 16 GB of flash memory. I think I’ll have one since I always like to capture and store all of the memorable videos with my family and friends.

I agree… The HDR.TB1 I have (US) has NICE 5.1… It REALLY sounds good… you do hear the seperation although the mic is on top of the cam…

This is a deal breaker for me… which is too bad… 5.1 is part of “hi def” in my opinion…. Therefore, there is no advantage to this “upgrade”…. There really isn't/.. Built in Memory is no big deal….. The other items are negligible…. The MAIn reason you have a cam is for video and audio… and this loses it on the audio portion… Maybe they will learn for the next model!
