Sony’s Touchscreen Walkman vs. Apple’s iPod Touch Pictures

3445057564_449dcf93c0

Here are some pictures courtesy of AV Watch that shows Sony’s Touchscreen Walkman (NW-X1050/NW-X1060*) next to and on top of an iPod Touch (similiar size to iPhone). The iPod Touch has a case and screen protector, but the difference in screen size is pretty noticeable. Also, it sure seems like that OLED screen is really amazing, despite the fact that the iPod Touch does have a screen protector on in these pictures. I won’t get into feature comparisons (most of us here understand which device has an advantage in certain aspects), but it is definitely good to see Sony stepping up.

I can’t see why people still compare these two products, Walkman is it’s own thing and the iPod Touch is another. In terms of size I can understand… Sony will never beat the cool app features on the iPod Touch/iPhone though so I don’t see the point is comparing them both.

Although the X series is thicker and smaller, you can see how much of a difference the OLED screen makes in the colours, where black looks true black on the sony and dark grey on the apple.

Sony X-series Bookmarking support for audio files ? Anyone heard if these new ones have this ?
As far as I can tell other sony models do not support “proper” bookmarking, as in part way through podcast, set bookmark, listen to something else / power down device, return later, load bookmark and continue from where you left off.

Sadly it seems to be a niche feature and never mentioned on the specs for these things X(
It a deal maker / breaker for me, so I really need to know whether to wait or not.

I emailed Sony already, but who knows whether theyll get back or not.

    Any help ?
    TIA.

I grew up with Walkman, but turned to the iPod for the last few years. In addition, I played with Sony (and sonicstage), Sony HiMD, Cowon, Zune, and even Kenwood. Currently I have an iPod Touch which works fine. It is used mostly for quick internet browsing and Japanese language study materials such as videos, podcasts and a small amount of music.

What I really need is a true music player. I bought the NW-A808 in Japan back in ’07 but sold it a year later (idiot!!!). Now it is time to start anew and it looks like the new Walkman X-series is just what is needed. It is too bad Sony music players are such a niche product here in the States; they were everywhere in Tokyo!

Why do so many people believe that the iPod touch was the first audio player that has a touch screen. For its size the Sony X-series seems a little heavy size, but the included features makes it an interesting product.

The fact that it has an integrated S-Master amp sets it well above the iPod Touch.

Go listen to a Touch – then come and buy an X Series from me…

  • julito

You Dont know why they are comparing? because theyre are exactly the same, but walkman sounds a lot better than the touch, (of course, to apreciate that you should have headphones of $100 up) and the touch has a regular sound but the apps are great.

  • pimpolho

I think the Walkman will appeal more to music lovers with simplicity in mind, and for me the sound quality of the Walkman is really impressive and on the other hand, the Touch is a great overall device.

Oh great, Sony runs after Apple again. Have they ever considered the impracticality of touch screens vs buttons? The main reason I ditched my iPod for a Network Walkman was because the Walkman design had separate, fully functioning BUTTONS. Feeling around in your pocket for the Volume up button was much more quick and convenient than figuring out the hand movements necessary to do the same with a touch device.

    sony ipod is very stuppid

  • Nenen

Put it in a simpler way: Sony Walkman = Sound Quality….. Ipod = Applications…..
