Playstation 3 Firmware Update (v2.80)

ps3

Sony released an optional firmware update for the Playstation 3 recently which aims to improve the quality of the built-in software. That is a rather vague answer for a 143mb download. What is new? It’s hard to tell at this point, but apparently some are pegging this as a developer release that is paving the way for cross-game communication. It also apparently shuts down the Open Remote Play exploit, which was software that allowed PC/Mac compatibility. Other tidbits include a doubled character limit in the text chat system, up to 64 from 32. And lastly, others have noted that when you are reading a message from one of your friends and go back, the XMB will now go back to the message list instead of your friends list.
