New Sony S-Series Walkman Caught In The Wild?

Image removed by request from Sony.

The S-Series Sony Walkman has been a good seller for Sony – super-thin, music and video capabilities, long lasting battery, FM tuner, and so forth. It resides in a good price range and has probably been one of Sony’s best selling Walkmans. We recieved this picture from one of our most credible sources of a never before seen Walkman and we are guessing this will be the successor to the S series. Pictured in red, blue, pink and black, what is most curious about this device is the inclusion of what seems to be speakers on the front of the device. This could be great for those who like to use their music players without headphones, like at the beach. The design is really fresh looking and the screen also seems to be bigger. This product isn’t set to arrive for a while, but we are hoping that Sony brings it to the market with higher than 8GB capacities, noise canceling, and even better battery life.

Not liking the mickey mouse looking controls. Don't see how sony thinks these controls look good, they just don't. As for the speakers, dust and dirt magnets with crud getting stuck in the little holes for sure.

I am wondering why the new E series has chrome around the centre contol whereas this does not? The screen appears to be widescreen no? Which is nice but the speakers are odd and I hope this is not a feature on future walkmans like any new A series.

That being said, what do you mean by not ready to arrive for a while? a month? 3 months? 6 months?

Looks like the old bath radio they had published 10 Years ago!

Yes the mickey mouse thing is unfortunate. The speakers thing doesn't do it for me either. Apart from those two issues I like the shape of the player – i.e the rounded top and bottom at least is a change from previous similar walkmans.

I think speakers are great. I sometimes like to listen to music at very low volumes without headphones. The only device I have right now that does that it my phone, but it doesn't have volume normalization.

I don't mind the look one bit. If anything Sony should team up with Disney..ha. I'm a fan of the speakers and what seems to be a pretty decent sized screen.

I'm acyually hoping for a capacity bump for the S series, as it's my all time favorite DAP.

    1) It looks plasticky and cheap to my eyes.. If it is to compete with the ipod, it needs a “wow” factor. Chromed grills with anodized aluminium body would look nicer in my opinion.

    2) Please please please, can we have on the go playlists, song rating, delete from hardware ,gap-less playback and lossless codec support? Simple software solutions that would make a huge difference.

    3) Minimal styling as well please. No big labels with dnc or s-master amp advertised down the side. So 80's so tacky, so not needed.

My thoughts. Let's not score an own goal here.

I've started a petition for gapless playback in the forums. I hope all will vote, and leave further comments and suggestions in the thread. Thanks!!!

I hope we can also get this on the front page for news, might get the message across to Sony better. IMO, this is 1 of the few reasons keeping the Walkman players from hitting #1 all over again.
