Sony’s ICF-CL75iP Multi-function Clock Radio for iPod + iPhone Now Available For Pre-Order

Confirming our leak presented at the beginning of the month, SonyStyle is now listing the ICF-CL75iP multi-function clock radio (digital photo frame, iPod + iPhone charger/multimedia player, alarm clock, and more) for pre-order at the price of $149. It should be available on or around October 15th. Sony has also presented the owner’s manual and full specifications for the device and they are extremely competitive for its price range. You basically can slide out the dock, plug in your iPod or iPhone and play video and music from it on the 7″ inch WVGA (800 x 480) LCD screen with this beast. Hot. If that’s not good enough, it has FM/AM, 1GB of built-in storage, and has slots for Memory Stick and SD media – including a generic USB input. Video codec compatibility includes MP4, Motion JPEG and AVI. Audio codecs, aside from streaming from your iPod + iPhone, include MP3 and WMA.

Other notable features, aside from a ton of FM/AM presets, customizable backgrounds include  a 2-5-7 day alarm for waking to the radio, iPod, iPhone, Nature Sounds, or a pre-recorded personal message. There’s also a four step brightness control (Hi, Mid, Lo, Night Mode).

Are you getting one? Very tempting.

I bought this frame yesterday at BestBuy… overall is is nice… sounds great and the pictures look great. I only have six issues, You see the frame comes with six sample photos that can not be removed and they play during the slideshow….. I dont really want to have pictures of a duck, yellow and green bell peppers, some leaves, a mountain, some flowers and last but not least a child that is not mine showing! I am currently talking to Sony via their online chat and they are saying that the file are protected. So far they don't seem to think that it is all that big an issue. In truth it may not be but even the cheapest frames that you get now let you chose what pics play during the show. Sony better hurry up and push out a firmware update or this thing is going back to the store.

That is weird. It seems like those photos should be just for wallpaper, or at least deselectable.
Do those 6 photos only play when you're playing a slideshow from the internal memory?
If you play the slideshow from a memory card, it will only display the photos on the memory card, correct?

I bought it from Amazom, if you load your pics on a memory card and then play the slide show from there, it skips the stupid internal pics. That was driving me nuts also. I really don't need pics of “demo family” playing in my slideshow. Otherwise, I am pretty impressed with this. It would be nice if you could switch to ipod video mode easier – its takes a few clicks to get into that mode now.

There seems to be a moderately common glitch on these. I (and a fair number of other reviewers) have had it lock up on a couple of occasions, and not had the alarm go off a few times. I'm guessing it's a firmware issue. Hopefully they'll be doing an update sometime soon; an unreliable alarm clock is pretty useless…

Just an update; Sony released a firmware update (1.03). It doesn't mention anything about fixing lockups, etc; but I was at 1.01 so maybe that was the previous version. Got my fingers crossed…..
