The employees at the Tyson's Corner Store are simply the best. I was in the store one time when they had one of their regional managers visit and believe it or not my experience was better without their big visitor. The woman manager came over introduced herself and offered to invite me for lunch after trying to talk me into buying one of their Vaio computers. I had to tell her I was married before she left me alone. I did like how close she got during our conversation. She was talking about the web cam and how much fun video conversations can be. Needless to say, I ran out of the store. Now I am too scared to go back.

I visited the Sony Style Store in Tysons Corner, VA this evening to experience the Cybershot DSC-TX5 and one of the 3D TVs in person.

TX5: There was a display of three TX5s in the front of the store (showing a fourth submerged in water), none of them had batteries. A few feet from them was another display a cameras (not TX5) which had batteries but were alarmed if you tried to pick them up and use them. I accidentally set off the alarm, and as I'd been in the store 15 minutes without being helped (one employee was helping customers, at least three others were either on a personal phone call or talking to each other) I assumed this might get me help faster. The alarm went off almost five minutes when someone came over and offered to turn it off. I asked if there was a camera that both had batters and was not alarmed, he told me to speak to someone back at the camera desk. There, the one employee who was working had a line of customers behind the Asian couple he was helping, the only TX5s were in the case in front of the couple.

3DTV: The picture is amazing, the glasses are uncomfortable, there is not a single sign in that disheveled store indicating how much it costs or how to buy it. I would have asked an employee, but nobody was nearby and willing to help. Two couples in front of me with questions also gave up and left.

I specifically made this trip because of an abismal experience I had yesterday with Sony customer support regarding Netflix on my Bravia KDL40-W5100. I wanted to see if the TX5 impressed me enough to replace my existing Cybershot, and whether a Sony 3D TV was worth adding to three other Sony TVs I currently own. Since I was not able to see/use the camera, and I'm not certain which TV I even looked at (again: absolutely no signage), I think my Sony brand loyalty has come to an end.

The Sony Style shopping experience leaves much to be desired.
