New Rolly on the Horizon

Sony Japan announced an updated version of Rolly to be out soon – SEP-50BT. A new added color – Rolly in pink will definitely be a hit with ladies (to match VAIO type CS in pink). Two Gigs of storage has been added (Japanese models to this day have 1 Gig) and a new Bluetooth function has been implemented so that a user with a bluetooth enabled cell phone or notebook could control his or her Rolly movements(Motion Editor 1.1 and Rolly Remote software). If you got a Rolly family, you can orchestrate and stream your music to up to 7 Rollys as well. To the users of older Rolly’s – Sony is not leaving you behind in the trenches – forthcoming update will enable your babies to do the same tricks. Stay tuned to Sony Support site for now…

Rolly Rolls Happily to Europe

Today we are flooded with Sony news from IFA and one of them is Sony’s bringing its Sound Entertainment Player to good ole Europe. This cool dancing “eGg” (this author’s spelling) does an amazing job in its audio capabilities as well as its movements.

“Sony has always captivated its customers by creating products that merge technologies and push the boundaries of innovation and we are encouraged to see the amount of interest evoked by “Rolly,” said Andreas Ditter, President Audio Marketing Europe.” “Rolly” is a fantastic example of this convergence, providing listeners with a truly unique audio-visual experience made possible through Sony’s motion and audio technology.”

It looks like it is the same model number that is marketed here in the US SEP-30BT. Comes in white and black (if you get the black one, get a microfiber cloth as it is a finger print magnet).

Check out my previous Rolly posts here and here.

Rolly – Ingenious Creation as well as a New Way to Enjoy your Tunes

By this time we have all to come to know what Sony Rolly is all about. Sony Japan has done a great job by intriguing the public by running the teaser campaign and finally revealing a new category of products in sound entertainment. Rolly has had a good share of criticism and there are people out there still not comprehending the idea of a robotic music player. After having owed Aibo ERS-7M3/T model, and learning that Rolly has had Aibo engineers put their minds in creating Rolly, I was quite intrigued by this new concept and was lucky enough to obtain a Japanese version of Sony Rolly. I know that Sony USA is bringing this exciting product here as well (May 2008), but having waited for a while (since it was promised to be released in spring), I could not hold any longer….

I just wanted to share with you and sort of do my review in parts.

First impressions started with unpacking. Sony has always stood out in its packaging “art” (yes, they even employ designers that work on making sure your new Sony toy is packaged attractively in a box). The player sat beautifully in a cushioned nest, and indeed looked like a dinosaur egg waiting to be picked up and played with.

I will leave you with this for now (kinda late here right now), as more will be posted soon. So sit tight and feel free to post your comments/questions below…
