Sony’s ICF-CD3iP iPod/iPhone Dock, CD, and Alarm Clock

Sony is set to debut a new iPod/iPhone dock that is relatively simple in design and shouldn’t break the bank. While we don’t have an official word on pricing, look for this to be about $100 as Australian retailers already have it listed for pre-order for an equivalent price. Nonetheless, the ICF-CD3iP will be fully compatible with the iPod and iPhone and can charge and playback music accordingly. What’s also keen about this dock is that two alarms can co-exist, meaning the alarm set on the clock and the iPhone/iPod will work together. Line In and 30 FM/AM presets pretty much round up the other features available, and the included remote will be able to control the iPod/iPhone, CD and Radio functions. The CD player can read CD-R/RW’s and is capable of playing back MP3 cd’s. This sure sounds like a winner to me! Expect this to land in October.

Dissapointed that item doesnt use base speaker for iPhone. It uses the phones speaker…but once I plugged in my ipod and compared I was glad because the sound that comes out of the base speaker is dull and radioish…should have waited for Bose to release something simular, I guess :(

This thing is designed to be put by your bedside and at night the stupid clock lights up the whole room even when its at its dimmest setting.
If you like sleeping in the dark then dont get this product.

I agree with Jozo. We loved the unit except for the stupid brightness control - it lit up the whole bedroom and we couldn't sleep! Back to the store for a refund.

Absolutely agreed. The light is as bright as the sunshine in the morning and the fact that it plays through the iphone's built in speaker is poppycock. I wish my wife would have gotten me that basketball I asked for.

The clock was returned because one major flaw, poor integration with iPod (I have nano 3G). …the unit will default to the first song in the iPod. One can devise a workaround and set the alarm while the particular song is playing. The iPod will start from that spot onward when the alarm will come on. Such workaround has two drawbacks. Firstly, the song will start at the exact time spot when the alarm was set. (~30 sec into the song) This is annoying as I often wake up before the alarm clock kicks in, and do not want to listen to an abruptly truncated my favourite tune. Secondly, if you want to wake up to the different song next morning you have to play that song AND set up alarm again. I have communicated to SONY that I will gladly buy their clock again if they can integrate iPod better. What I want is the ability to simply select (highlight) a song in iPod, so the play will start from that spot. I challenge all software wizards to do just that!
